Practitioners' Rank Best Architecture Schools for 2003 The architecture school research was conducted with 148 firm owners, partners, and/or principals of private practice architecture and engineering firms who participated by answering the following question:"In your firm's hiring experience within the past five years, which schools do you feel have best prepared students for the architecture profession? (Please list up to ten schools from NAAB accredited programs.)
These firms were selected by DesignIntelligence with the list validated by Counsel House Research. There were approximately 22,967 employees in the participating firms. The survey was conducted in the late summer and early fall of 2002.
We chose the leading firms from across the country being careful to achieve a geographic diversity as well as include firms of all sizes. We looked at firms that are leaders in their market sector (i.e. healthcare, commercial, institutional, etc.). We included firms that have won major national, state, local, and market sector award programs within the past five years. For the interiors survey, we included not only interior design firms but also architecture firms with interior design departments. The surveys were targeted to those having direct experience with the hiring and performance of graduates: director of design, managing principals and human resource directors.
